landfill mining and renosam

The article presents the feasibility of landfill mining operation specifically to recover soil-like material at old dumpsites of India for re-use in geotechnical applications. Aged municipal solid waste was collected from three dumpsites of India and initial tests were conducted on the soil-like material of the municipal solid waste.

Different degradable plastics have been promoted as a solution for the accumulation of waste in landfills and the natural environment; in Mexico, the most popular options are oxo-degradable, which degrade in a sequential abiotic–biotic process, and compostable plastics. In this research, high-density polyethylene, oxo-degradable high-density polyethylene, and certified compostable plastic ...

In Hydro, we seek to recycle as much of this SPL as possible, and responsibly landfill the rest in a safe and secure way. Targets: Implement the Tailings Dry Backfill methodology in our mining operations, to eliminate the need for future tailings storage …

Enhanced landfill mining is also relevant for municipal solid waste. In this case landfill mining separates waste into directly recyclable materials (glass, plastic, metals, aggregates) and a refuse-derived fuel fraction, which is further converted into high-added-value products.

Case Studies. In the following case studies, you'll see how Headworks International has provided the experience and expertise necessary to develop customized biological wastewater treatment solutions for applications in a wide variety of industries.

Mining also increased the landfill's airspace by 10,194 m 3 extending the life of the ashfill with an estimated economic value of $267,000. The estimated per-Mt cost for the extraction of metal was $158. This case study demonstrates that ashfills can be profitably mined for metals without financial support from government.

Most landfill excavations reported in the literature, produced high fractions of fines up to 75 mm because production of cheap landfill cover was a principle objective (EPA, 1997, Renosam, 2009). Within the scope of ELFM and taking into account technological progress in separation techniques, inferior applications as landfill cover should be ...

The Flanders-based Enhanced Landfill Mining Consortium addresses the difference with a case study outlining the REMO landfill site in Belgium and potential energy recovery. Over the last 50 years, waste management has undergone significant paradigm shifts. The first shift was the phasing out of uncontrolled landfilling.

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA; Spanish: Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte, TLCAN; French: Accord de libre-échange nord-américain, ALÉNA) was an agreement signed by Canada, Mexico, and the United States that created a trilateral trade bloc in North America. The agreement came into force on January 1, 1994, and superseded the 1988 Canada–United States Free ...

Trial excavations have also been used in the exploration stages of landfill mining projects (e.g. Hogland, 2002).However, when wanting to go deeper than 9 m, drilling has been seen as the only applicable approach (Hjelmar et al., 2011).The drilling technique used in sampling may produce samples with differing properties to those obtained by excavating, as the drilling may e.g. reduce the ...

Landfill mining can be traced back to a 1953 project in Israel to find fertilizers for orchards by scooping up soil from decomposed trash. Few other projects were reported until the 1990s when, in an effort to prevent groundwater contamination and other pollution, new regulation in the U.S. required landfill owners to use plastic liners and ...

Scandinavian countries and Switzerland no longer permit landfill use and are currently mining redundant landfills to remove the environmental danger of ongoing emissions and leachates. From 2035, European leading countries have banned the use of landfills and they are debating bringing that decision forward to 2030. This is in line with Europe ...
